as temperatures have begun to dip plummet into the -30ºCs (-20s ºF), mike and i have been revisiting our travel photos and videos from the last year with reckless abandon (him - thailand + laos. me - greece + turkey). a beautiful, sunny, but ultimately depressing escape. why again, do we live in this freezing wasteland? why are we not wandering around outdoor markets, reading books on sandy beaches and racing around on scooters in asia? oh right... that's supposed to happen after i graduate.

in any case, allow me to offer you one of my favourite escapes as of late - a video mike put together of his time in asia last march. it's beautiful. feel free to get lost in it for awhile, but don't hate me if it makes you even more bitter and depressed about the winter chill...

*we have also been dealing with the cold by plowing through seasons of lost. another pleasant yet dangerous diversion.

this evening i was feeling a bit nostalgic about our two weeks of traveling around in greece + turkey. while there were many things i should have been working on... i decided to put together this little video!

lovely lindos.

while on the island of rhodes, we took a bus to the lovely little coastal town of lindos. the town is comprised of numerous whitewashed buildings, overlooking a heart-stopping view of the mediterranean. we walked around the town in complete awe before heading down to the turquoise water for a lazy beach afternoon.

whitewashed houses and lemon potatoes... i'm in heaven.

why, hello there! γεια from greece!

my friend krista and i landed on monday, met up with my british friend pip, found our way to our hotel, and promptly passed out at eight thirty pm (poor pip - it was six thirty her time!)

yesterday we were much better rested and took on the city of athens for the first time. we explored the city with a lonely planet walking tour -- which sort of blew our minds. my favourite part was when it took us through "a maze of little whitewashed houses". beautiful flowers, a winding path, a little old man getting his haircut in his living room, hand painted signs pointing to the acropolis... it was one of those moments that i will never, ever forget.

around four, we had a late lunch at paradosiako, another lonely planet recommendation. the little hole in the wall restaurant is a favourite among locals and was absolutely everything i imagined our first proper meal in athens would be -- greek salad with huge chunks of feta, incredible garlic spread with hunks of fresh bread, and the most incredible, delicious, outrageously good lemon potatoes. we ate and ate and ate...and consequently ate nothing else all day.

one of my friends recently recommended i eat my way through europe while i have the metabolism. i think just might!
