Skating at night sounds like the quintessential Canadian pass-time. Truthfully, I haven't done it in a few years. However, our friends recently made a skating rink on their property in the country and invited us over.
I wore skates that were too small. My friend wore skates that used to belong to her grandfather.
The boys kept falling over into the snow drifts. Us girls went in early for hot chocolate.
Note: Lest anyone think I am adept at graphic design, I think it's worth mentioning that it's always Mike that makes the fancy post titles for me. Gracias, Mike!
This is so beautiful. I treasured every picture.

I looooove outdoor skating! We get a few outdoor rinks in San Francisco at Christmas time. It's so magical!
ReplyDeleteDown here in GA we haven't gotten any snow this year, but we did manage to go on an ice skating date. It was quite a thrill. These photos are magical!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been skating in so long! I spent many formative years in a small town in northern Michigan and ice skating was always a tradition. Unfortunately here in Toronto we don't have any snow, let alone non-man made ice rinks!
ReplyDeleteHi Sara! Thanks for that lovely comment in the FAQs! :)
DeleteLooks like fun! I wish it snowed here in Southern California!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! Wish we had some snow here in Toronto. Alas - it's +5 here today. Such a weird winter...
ReplyDeleteuhm, this makes me want to skate. but I haven't done that since I got a concussion skating...heheh, let's just say I'm not too great at it. lovelovelove the photos--especially the 2nd and 4th--and the title design too. (:
ReplyDeleteaw! i can see how that turned you off skating... i am not that great at it either. i just did laps around the rink - i surely would injure myself if i tried using a hockey stick...
Deleteoh man this post makes me want to run to the airport and get a flight home, i miss canada!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so, so fun. :)
ReplyDeleteWere you on skates & taking photos? I've wanted to go skating this year, but I never want to go and not take photos- but I'm afraid of being too big of a klutz and have a nightmarish image of me smashing my camera to bits because it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love the titles you always have on your photos and have thought to myself how I wished I had skills to do photos & graphics on them like that. Kind of glad to know you have your Mike doing it for you, if I ever get round to doing anything like that- it'll be my hubby doing it for me!
Anyhow, these photos are lovely as always. :-)
ha! i'm a huge klutz too...
Deletei took some photos before i put on my skates (even still, i was so nervous about going on the ice with the camera!) and then mike shot some (with skates on - but he is not a klutz at all!)
& we're so similar - two blog loving ladies with husbands with mad design skills :)
thanks for pointing that out, i was just going to ask what font that is and where he found that darling graphic! ha! love this. ice skating sounds like such a blast!
ReplyDeletemike usually reads the comments, so always feel free to ask! i'll ask him about the font & graphic :)

this looks ridiculously, beautifully fun. I really, really feel like skating right now. yes please.
ReplyDeleteyay for the fact that I'm going ice-skating next week though!
i love ice skating (or rather, trying to ice skate!), but living in florida i haven't done in it eons. you're a lucky duck. also, i wish i could take such decent photos in low light...
ReplyDeleteyes, it's a tricky thing! with the 5D mkii, you're able to really crank up the ISO. it still ends up being a bit grainy, but pretty good quality...
DeleteI love the fancy post titles. Good job Mike! And fun activity! If I lived in your city, I'd be have tempted to ask if we could be best friends. You guys always are having rad parties and events. :)
ReplyDeleteAw! That's so sweet! :) Well, we are a very inclusive group, so if you ever make the move to Winnipeg...
Deletehow wonderful

ReplyDeleteHow magical!
ReplyDeleteBeing from Vancouver, I've only skated in the real outdoors once on lake Windermere in the rockis. (Unless you count Robson square, and that time, as a kid in the mid-90s when it snowed so much the street froze, so I went out for a skate on it).
this is my favorite graphic--reminds me of the live the language videos. :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow!
ReplyDeleteThat looks fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks so fun! I have been living in Canada for the past 6 months and still haven't gone skating!

seriously looks like such a fun time!
ReplyDeleteWe use to have a pond in the woods, down the windy path, over the ravine. Such fond childhood memories. Now I'm in Arizona, where childhood memories come to die. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd pretty super cute graphics they are too - job well done, Mike! Looks like you had such a good time even if I am terrified of skating!
