This past weekend, we had the complete pleasure of visiting Mike's friend Paul at his family's strawberry farm. He let us do some picking after-hours and encouraged us to eat as we picked.
As soon as I bit into my first one, I realized that I had forgotten what a strawberry was supposed to taste like. You sort of get used to eating the ones from the grocery store that are all white inside and not really sweet at all. These perfect little strawberries were unbelievably juicy and blood red on the inside. I never want to eat a store bought strawberry again.
More photos here.
Post script - I'm so proud and happy to be part of Kinfolk Magazine. It launches today, check it out here! I can't wait to dig into it this weekend.

so cool :) I really like this post!!
ReplyDeleteThose look delicious... Just looking at those pictures reminds me of what a strawberry is supposed to take like.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all...you are just too darn cute! Love this post! You totally hit the nail on the head about doing our best to be more mindful about how we treat people on a day to day basis. This is something that I struggle with myself, but I'm trying and I think that as long as you give it an honest effort, that's what matters. Have a brilliant weekend, pretty lady! :)
ReplyDeleteaw! i used to go strawberry picking with my family all the time! now we rarely ever do! those look DELISH!

ReplyDeletelove this post! i want to be there! the shot of your hands is so great.
ReplyDeletealso funny side note, i have that shirt mike is wearing! xoxoxoxo
Beautiful fields full of delicious strawberries! I have just one bed in my garden and unfortunately this years wasn't a Strawberry year. It was a Raspberry one, and that was great too! Anyway, I completely understand what you mean, in the same way I hate tomatoes from the store, they taste like water, while eating a tomato out of the garden is a completely different thing. I wish you a nice weekend!

you are so lucky to have a friend that owns a strawberry farm! I just bought my first pint of Ontario strawberries this summer and I'm so addicted already. I wish summer can last forever so I never need to go back to strawberries shipped from California!
ReplyDeletei looove this post. the stained fingers, fresh strawberries... love it.
ReplyDeletealso, clearly this is not the point of the post, but can i ask what font the "strawberry fields" is written in?! i love it.
janis, you are so dang cute. strawberry fields look like so much fun. yummy.
ReplyDeleteberry picking is the best! and totally agree on how fresh "real" strawberries are like a different species than the dry crunchy grocery store kind.
ReplyDeleteuhm yum yum i can't wait for the summer!!
ReplyDeletenice thoughts about kindness :)
gorgeous photos! and I totally know what you mean-- I can't buy strawberries from the grocery store. they're just a disappointment.

beautiful! i love berry season here in BC - it's arrived a bit late this year due to our cool summer. But it's worth the wait. it's amazing how much flavour is packed into those juicy, tiny red berries compared to the jumbo sized and bland tasting ones at the supermarkets.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so fun! :)
ReplyDelete@Bridget: The font is "strange love"! One of my faves :) We're using it all over the wedding!!
ReplyDeletelove these images of strawberry fields and strawberries! It is probably my favourite fruit when it does not taste like water (like the ones from the grocery store!)
ReplyDeletelove the colours in these photos, I especially love the 3rd photo.
AMAZING piece in kinfolk btw! xo
Adore the pictures and love the story. We used to grow strawberries around the edge of our garden when I was a kid, it was the mere memory of how they tasted that made me rebel against supermarket strawberries. The real deal is emotionally on another plane.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your strawberries in many wonderful forms!
I just discovered your blog through a comment you left on everyday musings (I commented right after you a few minutes ago!) and wow, I am blown away. Your space here is instantly captivating and so so lovely. Very much looking forward to following along with your adventures.
